| NT-ProANP

Amino-terminal pro-cardiac natriuretic peptide (NT-ProANP) is the N-terminal polypeptide of the ANP precursor. In the rough vesicles of atrial cells, a 149 amino acid residue of pro-ANP is first produced, and its signal peptide (23 amino acids) is cut off in the Golgi, leaving a 126 amino acid pro-ANP that is stored in secretory granules. Prior to secretion, the 98 amino acid N-terminal peptide (NT-pro ANP) and the 28 amino acid C-terminal peptide (ANP) were separated. ANP is secreted from the atria as a result of atrial dilation stimulated by increased blood volume and/or increased intra-atrial pressure.
